A quick start

Who is Intro-Danish for?

  • Foreign employees over the age of 18 who have entered the country in the previous 12 months and have regular employment, legal residence and work permit.
  • Cross-border commuters who have started their contracts or have established their own businesses within the past 12 months.

Students of Intro-Danish can continue their Danish education at Danskuddannelse 1, 2 and 3.

Course goals and content
The purpose of Intro-Danish is to provide foreign staff with the fastest possible way to basic level proficiency in Danish as well as the basic knowledge needed at the specific workplace. The emphasis is on:

  • General everyday communication
  • Job-specific and employment-related communication
  • Workplace culture, work environment and safety in the workplace

Examples and concrete experiences from the work place form an important part of the curriculum. This enables students to quickly become active in the professional and social life of the workplace.

Duration
Intro-Danish includes 250 classroom lessons of 45 minutes, divided into 5 units of 50 lessons each.

Time and location
The time and location of Intro-Danish classes is determined with the work situation of the students in mind. Classes can take place in the morning, afternoon or evening or on weekends, either at the work place thoughout Denmark or at a CLAVIS facility in Copenhagen, Greve or Roskilde.

Method and form of instruction
Instruction will be planned with great flexibility so as to match the needs and desires of both the students and the workplace. This includes the option to take parts of the course online. Teaching materials include:

  • CLAVIS’ own Intro-Danish teaching material, ”Velkommen”
  • Photos from the workplace and work situations
  • Safety instructions
  • Job descriptions
  • Brochures and products from the specific company
  • Manuals and instructions for equipment
  • Workplace culture
  • Laws and regulations concerning work and job market

Instruction at CLAVIS includes the CLAVIS ALL method, which builds on the principles of audio-lingual learning. When appropriate, the CLAVIS concept Danish through Mother Tongue, which uses the native language as a shortcut to the Danish language and to knowledge about Danish society, is also used.
In all cases, CLAVIS will employ the methods that years of experience have shown to provide the greatest possible success in the shortest time possible.

Instructor qualifications
CLAVIS has extensive experience with teaching Danish for professional purposes. The teaching methods and teaching materials for CLAVIS Intro-Danish have been developed on the basis of this experience. CLAVIS instructors have – after completing a university or teaching degree - completed a specialized education in teaching Danish as a second language to adults.
