“I’m from Brazil and have been in Denmark for almost two years. My husband and I moved here because he got a job at the university. I’m a chef, so I can work in any country.
I think that when you choose to live or work in another country, it’s very important to get to know the traditions and the language. Not only to be able to communicate, but also to understand the society and culture. It shows that you have interest and respect for the people and the country. So because of this, I started my Danish lessons and since I live in Roskilde, I started at CLAVIS, which is the only school in the city.
I have learned other languages in my life and here the education system is completely different. The school has its good and bad points like everything in life. Overall, I am happy because the education helps me understand the language and life here in Denmark. Most of the teachers are also really good and understand the needs of the students.
Now I have been learning Danish for almost a year. In the beginning I felt that I developed a lot, but right now it’s a bit frustrating because I understand the teachers and the other students at school and they understand me, but when I’m out in the real world it’s not so easy to make myself understood.
In the future, I hope that it will come and that I can feel at home and integrated here in Denmark.”
