CLAVIS young-to-young network is a project under CLAVIS language & competence.
The project is for young people, respectively. young students and course participants with a refugee background in the youth department, who together create an intercultural youth network.
The project is based on the young-to-young approach, where young students are paired with young people with a refugee background. Together, they can create the basis for a good youth life in Denmark. This happens through mentor-mentee courses as well as through networking events, where mentors and mentees learn from each other and create a social network.
The project places great emphasis on the young people creating an intercultural community and developing together, learning from each other, and that empowerment and equality are important values.
– a new network for young people in Elsinore and Roskilde.
Are you 18+, a student and live in Roskilde, Helsingør, Fredensborg or Hørsholm municipality? Then you can now apply to become part of a new intercultural youth-to-youth network in Roskilde or Helsingør. You will be a mentor for a mentee and part of a youth network for young students and newly arrived young people with a refugee background. In the network there will be professional and social theme events.
You want to play an important and active role in the integration and welcome of your mentee in your local area. This could be participating in leisure activities, social events, sports, workshops – or whatever you can think of together.
You are part of a one-to-one mentor-mentee program with a lot of responsibility. In return, you get a unique chance to make a difference for a young mentee and learn about another culture.
You will take a mentor training over 4 weekday evenings and continuously exchange experiences with other mentors.
The young people are between 16 and 25 years old and come primarily from Iran, Iraq, Syria and Eritrea.
They attend CLAVIS, where they are taught Danish, math, English and IT.
They have started a new life and a new education and dream of making Danish friends and a youth network in Denmark.
The project has assigned project coordinators who will match mentors and mentees based on age, gender, education and interests and facilitate the training and program.

In spring 2018, mentors from the educational institutions in Roskilde and Helsingør will be recruited for the two youth networks. The students who are admitted to the program will go through this course in 2018.
There will also be a professional and social event where all mentors and mentees will have the opportunity to get to know each other and start networking. We expect to hold these events every 2 months.
About once a month, the mentors meet with the project coordinator, and evaluate and spar with each other about the progress with their mentees. This is also included as part of the mentor training.
The mentor training starts with 5-8 registrations and will typically be one evening a week for approx. 2.5 hours.

Part of the youth-to-youth network is also the Denmark trip – Know your new home country, which aims to help students in the youth departments in Roskilde and Helsingør improve their Danish and get to know Denmark and Danes better. In this way, the Denmark tours can contribute to integration, active citizenship and intercultural coexistence for young people aged 15-25 with a refugee background.
In November 2017, Elsinore’s youth department went on a Denmark trip, and in May 2018, Roskilde’s youth department went.
On the Denmark tours we visit museums, go on city walks, to communal dining and networking events with young Danes, on company visits and visit historical and cultural sites, and through these experiences the young people will get to know Denmark and Danes better.
Students visit cities and places such as Danfoss in Sønderborg, Institut for (X) in Aarhus, Vesterhavet, Højer Sluse, H. C. Andersens Hus in Odense and participate in communal dining in e.g. Absalon CPH and meet young Danes at e.g. DFUNK events in Aarhus and Copenhagen.
We are financially supported by the National Board of Social Services and have received a grant from Roskilde Festival. We collaborate with local educational institutions and the young people’s municipalities of residence.
The project takes place in the youth departments under CLAVIS in Helsingør and Roskilde.
